Alumni

When you commit to MCBC, you commit to something that is at the same time much larger than you, yet something which you engage with and represent in a deeply personal manner. The club is built on the achievements and efforts of hundreds of years and hundreds of people, and it is important for current rowers to see that, and for past rowers not to feel like the  contribution they have made is somehow diminished once they leave Magdalen - because of course it is not!

Once MCBC, Always MCBC

We want to make sure that people who have moved on from Oxford and MCBC feel as welcome and a part of the club as they did when they rowed. Over the course of this coming academic year, we aim to expand and solidify our network with as many of you as possible, be that in club dinners to which you are heartily invited, events and regattas at which you are always welcome, and in newsletters and on social media, which are regularly updated. Updates can always be found on this site as well. If you are ever up in Oxford, let us know if you want to accompany a crew in training, or join us at a social event. As part of our extended MCBC family, we'd be happy to see you at any opportunity you get!

The Withered Lilies Boat Club

Whilst many Magdalen alumni will continue rowing in some form, there is no place like MCBC, and no people like MCBC rowers. With this very much in mind, we aim to establish an informal club, through which alumni can reunite with fellow past members and race both at external regattas and versus the current students. More information on this will be coming soon, and we would be very welcoming of alumni of any experience or age for this.

Supporting the club

If you would like to play a closer role, either in terms of time or donations, it is always appreciated. MCBC of course demands high levels of performance, and that comes at a price, so your generosity makes a real impact throughout the club, often for many years to come. Rowing is an expensive sport to even maintain, let alone thrive at, and our ambitions are rightly set high. We want to make sure that Magdalen can be proud of its rowing pedigree, and that you, as part of that pedigree, can be proud of your own efforts in maintaining it. Even if you're in Oxford and available to coach, or perhaps have a couple of Henley Stewards passes going spare, whatever you can spare will make a tangible difference to us all.

If you have any questions, inquiries, news about the Withered Lilies or would just like to say hello, then please email Will Nelson, the Captain of Boats, at william.nelson@magd.ox.ac.uk. We'd love to see and hear from as many of you as possible.
